ThinkEngine Networks Announces RoHS Compliance for their VSR1000 Media Server
RoHS Compliance Opens Sales Opportunities in the EU
December 6, 2007 Marlborough, MA - ThinkEngine Networks today announced that their VSR1000 Media Servers are now compliant with the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, restricts the use of specific hazardous materials in electrical and electronic components. The directive was adopted in February, 2003 and went into effect on July 1, 2006. The European audio conferencing market grew 22% to $623M in 2006 compared to the North American market which grew 13% to $2.2B, according to Wainhouse Research¹.
"RoHS compliance opens the European Union to us as a marketplace," said Mike Wixon, VP of Product Management at ThinkEngine. "We have seen interest from European Conferencing Service Providers (CSP's) in the VSR1000 with our conferencing application, but until now we were unable to pursue those opportunities. Bringing our industry leading lowest cost per conferencing port to CSP's in Europe will expand our market reach."
"The changes necessary for compliance were relatively minor and as such the price of the VSR1000 has not changed," continued Wixon. "The VSR1000 with RoHS compliance is available for delivery this month."
